NASA BIG IDEA CHALLENGE

Luminosity has a 3-time track record of winning designs in the annual NASA Big Idea Challenge, supported by designs inspired and supported by ideations led by myself and fellow engineers. Each of these designs has been awarded funding for further research to be involved in future NASA missions to the moon.

VELOS- Winner of the 2020 Innovative Design Award, is a launcher system, mounted to a lunar lander, which launches sensor spheres into permanently shadowed regions in craters to survey materials in these tough-to-observe regions.

CHARLOTTE- Winner of the 2022 Systems Engineering award, is a towing spider robot, to ensure any other research vehicles can be autonomously towed out of steep and slippery terrain when maneuvering through lunar craters.

AEGIS- A current finalist in the ongoing 2024 competition, is an inflatable lunar landing pad, to provide a safe landing zone for future landing craft, preventing corrosive dust from damaging nearby equipment.
