BIOPHILIC SPACE USING DESERT GEOGRPAHY
In 2017, a team was assembled to pursue the Biophic Space Competition, hosted by the Biomicry Center at Arizona State University. The goal was to propose a space that used Biophilic principles to occupy the newly built lower floors of the Memorial Union Student Center on the Tempe Campus. Though this was an interior design project, "Team Vitality" was composed of Industrial Designers and Sustainability Students. Team Vitality's winning design consisted of using a set of custom furniture, designed around wind-carved canyon walls of the Arizona desert-scape to remove the box like nature of a room and instead make it appear as a grotto, for students to sit along the weaving benches, listen to the sounds of trickling water and gaze upon the terracotta colors o the walls, reminiscent of an Arizona Sunset.
